Olympic Ski Jumpers sue Vancouver organizers

Canadian female ski jumper joins lawsuit

A 17-year-old female ski jumper has become the first active Canadian athlete to join a lawsuit over the sport’s exclusion from the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Zoya Lynch is among 10 female athletes — most from the United States and Europe — suing Vancouver Olympic organizers because female ski jumping isn’t on the lineup for the 2010 Games.

The IOC votes events in and out of the Olympics.  I’m not sure why they would sue the Vancouver organizers instead of the IOC.  The are suing because Men’s Ski Jumping is included and Women’s Ski Jumping is not.  They say it violates their equality rights.  Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

I think it should be left to the concerned authority to decide what should be included and what should not. May be they have some issues over women’s event.

I completely agree. It should be left to the authorities to decide whether Men’s or Women’s or any event for that matter is in or out. I think that equal rights are over-used for many things (this is one of those things).

Why is the politics controlling the sport? I agree the authorities should be the investigators and deciding factor in issues like these.

I agree with Chris, it should really be left to the concerned authorities to decide this.

Its very unfortunate the IOC voted to remove the womens ski jumping. But I really don’t understand why they are suing the Vancouver Olympic organizers instead of the IOC.

I hope they don’t have any issues with the ladies events.

It does seem strange that they would exclude women from an event when the ramps are there and it seems obvious (to me at least) that they could include women. Maybe there is a legitimate excuse like lack of time, and they had to make some event cuts to fit everything in

Bode was the big thing in the 2006 Winter Games. He was a total flop and didn’t live up to the hype. At least now he can claim an Olympic Bronze to his medal collection this time around.
